PTO Fundraising Update!

The COLORUN is a celebratory run (or jog…or walk) at the end of our fundraising period (now through 21April). The color run, a culmination of our fundraising efforts, is a fun and casual run open to all MCS students, family and friends, with the added bonus of color packets and color bottles (filled with a safe, chalk-like powder) to be thrown around to “paint” participants during the run!

The 1/2 mile run will take place on MCS grounds and will feature several color stations where runners will be hit with a cloud of color as they pass. If you enjoy the first 1/2 mile lap, feel free to do a second!

Every MCS student should have received a color run packet with instructions on how to participate in the fundraising portion of the color run. Each student who raises $30 is automatically registered to participate in the color run and will be given a t-shirt.

MCS students, family and friends are all invited to participate in the color at no cost. We just ask that everyone register at the link below (COLOR RUN REGISTRATION). Friends and Family joining the color run can purchase an official event tee ($10) at the same link below, during registration.

Please check out the COLOR RUN FAQ page (linked below) for more info about the event.

FUNDRAISING: The color run is a celebration at the end of our fundraising period (now through 21April). Each MCS student is invited to help fundraise for this event with a school-wide goal of raising $30,000. The funds raised will go right back to the school to be used for enrichment activities (e.g. Field Day), security initiatives and school enhancements (e.g. bathroom remodels and a new gym floor).

In addition to the fundraising prizes listed on your students Color Run packet (which are geared toward fun swag to wear during the run), the PTO is holding weekly prize drawings which include great prizes such as extra recess, class pizza parties, gift baskets and a Nintendo Switch Lite! The weekly drawings/prize pool is NOT based on the amount of money raised. The weekly drawing/prize pool is based on the number of individual donations collected:

  • DRAWING #1: Friday, March 31st – register and set up your donation page by March 30th to be entered into this drawing. This prize will be a Nintendo Switch Lite!!!
  • DRAWING #2: Friday, April 7th – get 5 donations by April 6th to be entered into this drawing
  • PRIZE #3: Friday, April 14th – The grade that gets 100 combined donations by April 14th
  • PRIZE #4: Friday, April 21st – The grade with the most individual donations by April 21st

The MCS Annual Golf Open is BACK!

The golf open will be held on Monday July 10th at Quidnessett Country Club (private course). Registration begins at 11:30am with a 1pm shotgun start.

Just as in years past, there will be games at various holes, raffles ticket and a post-golf meal as well as a buffet lunch.

Early bird registration begins April 1st!

This months Parenting Hack is: ROSE & THORN

When you’re together as a family, take turns sharing what the “rose” and the “thorn” in your day were.

It’s a great way to combat the “I don’t knows” that children love to give parents when talking about their day and it’s a great way for parents and children to BOTH share a little about their day.

ROSE

What’s something that you loved about your day?

THORN

What’s one thing you wish went better today?

PTO Special Edition

We are looking for parents to help make our Christmas Festival a HUGE success

Sunday, December 4th

9:00am to 3:00pm

Monsignor Clark School

Christmas Festival

This open-to-all community event is sure to be a smashing success because of the support of MCS parents. We are still looking for help with this event so we’re bringing you this special edition PTO Newsletter as a bat-signal, looking to parents, teachers and middle school students who may be able to lend a hand.

Here’s where we could really use additional help:

  • SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR – volunteers are needed Friday (Dec 2, 9am-noon) and Sunday (Dec 4, all day)
  • BAKE SALE – we would greatly appreciate any an all donations of baked goods. These can be store bought or home made. If home made, the items need to be individually wrapped with ingredients labeled, please. Donations can be brought to MCS on Friday (Dec 2nd) and Saturday (Dec 3rd)
  • SPREADING THE WORD – Very attractive event yard signs are going to be available at parent pick-up this Friday afternoon. We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider putting one up in your yard to help spread the word throughout our communities about this free-and-open-to-all holiday event!
  • FRIDAY FESTIVAL PREP – volunteers are needed Friday after school. This group will decorate the school and move vendor tables (~60+) around the school. This is a wonderful job for strong, energetic individuals [we’re looking at you, dads and middle school students]. If you have decorations you’re looking to purge this year, don’t toss them, re-purpose them to the PTO! We’d be happy to take (good condition) festive décor; please contact the PTO via email to let us know you’d like to drop off items.
  • SUNDAY FESTIVAL: EARLY AM and LATE PM – volunteers are needed 6:30am-9am and 4pm-6pm to help vendors load and unload and take down decorations. Double service hours will be granted to MS volunteers for these slots
  • SUNDAY FESTIVAL – we’re looking for volunteers (2hr slots – select as many as you’d like). Spots are open all day and include jobs such as:
    • PHOTOGRAPHER – we’re looking for someone who is willing to take photos of kids with Santa. You may bring your own camera or we can supply one (with tripod). Photos will be emailed to families.
    • KITCHEN – volunteers will be putting together food orders for vendors and patrons
    • KIDS GAMES & CRAFTS – great for MS volunteers
    • RAFFLES – hourly raffles (on-the-hour raffle; items donated by vendors), stage raffles (raffle items supplied by PTO; announced in the afternoon) and Golden Ticket raffle (one BIG item supplied by PTO; announced in the afternoon)
    • LUNCH – adults and MS volunteers can help ensure vendors lunches are delivered
    • GIFT WRAPPING – we’re going to offer gift wrapping and this is another great spot for middle school volunteers (and adults)
    • TEACHERS – teacher volunteers are always appreciated to help manage financial transactions

The funds generated from this massive event are poured right back into the school. The school has several capital projects they would like to tackle and this year, the PTO and MCS have their sights set on refreshing the school’s elementary bathrooms.

Reasons to Get Involved in the PTO:

Parental involvement in PTO organizations has been shown to lift a bit of this burden off teachers’ shoulders, improving the quality of education for all children in the classroom and directly raising teacher morale. When teachers see parent involvement in action, they feel as if they have an assistant at home.

It’s back!!!

We are excited to bring back the annual Christmas Festival to MCS!

Please save the date to join us for a day of shopping, kids games, raffles and stop by to see Santa!

If you are interested in becoming a vendor, spots are still available! VENDOR FORM

DO YOU HAVE PARENTING SURVIVAL TIPS?

If you have secret parenting hacks such as tips for navigating homework, picky eaters, scheduling apps that saved your sanity, ways to safely supervise social media usage, etc., please submit your tips to the PTO mailbox!

Once a month at our PTO meetings, we’ll highlight a new parenting hack to share with the community. We’d love to feature your survival tips!

Our monthly PTO meeting schedule is featured on our webpage, under MCS PTO Events.

Thank you – Halloween Spooktacular

Dear MCS Families,

On behalf of the PTO, we’d like to express our sincere thanks to all who came out to the Spooktackular event on Saturday. There were so many smiling faces! Who else LOVED seeing the younger kids doing a conga line in their costumes???

With 130 new students in our school this year, it certainly made this event bigger and better than ever! …and bigger is an understatement – we had over 450 people attend the event this year and 35 vehicles in place for Trunk or Treating – breaking all previous MCS Halloween Spooktacular records!

Competition for best Trunk was at an all-time high this year – a huge thank you to volunteers and their creative trunks. This year will be difficult to top. Kids and parents alike loved this part of the event.

Apologies to any middle school students who had to miss the haunted hallway. The hallway had to be closed early when an outdoor fog machine set off smoke detectors; the wind was just right to blow the fog back into the open doors of the school. At the request of SKFD, we had to close the hallway early to ensure a safe event.

Events like this can only happen with your involvement. We have some other events coming up and we’d love to see you and have your participation:

  • AT OUR NEXT LARGE EVENT –  Sunday, Dec 4th, MCS PTO will host the Annual Christmas Festival right here at MCS which will run from 9am to 3pm and will be open to the entire community (not just MCS families). There will be a Scholastic Book Fair presence the day of the event and the week before the event.
  • TAKE THE LEAD ON AN EVENT – We have several exciting event options including the Annual Golf Tournament (tentatively June 2023 – no golf experience necessary) as well as the Mother/Son (tentatively April 2023) and Father/Son (tentatively May 2023) events.
  • VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME DURING AN EVENT – We have many other events planned which will require help from volunteers – be on the lookout in the Friday MCS emails or Monthly PTO Newletter emails for more opportunities.

If you’re interested in helping with the Christmas Festival or the associated book fair, taking the lead on future events, volunteering your time, or just want to know more – please email the PTO to express your interest or attend the next PTO meeting on Wendesday November 9th at 7pm (either in person at MCS, or via Zoom).
