Clubs and Activities at MCS
At Monsignor Clarke School, student life goes far beyond the classroom. Our clubs and extracurricular activities offer students opportunities to grow as leaders, develop their talents, and build lasting friendships—while fostering a strong sense of school spirit, service, and community.
Student Council
Student Council serves as the voice of the students at MCS. With representatives from Grades 4 through 8, including leadership from the middle school, the Council plays an active role in shaping student life. Student Council fosters leadership, responsibility, and a strong sense of school spirit. Members lead student-focused activities throughout the year, including organizing middle school dances, pep rallies, service projects, and events for Catholic Schools Week that celebrate our faith, community, and school pride.
National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the oldest and most respected student recognition programs in the United States—and MCS is proud to hold a nationally recognized NJHS charter. Membership is open to students who demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship. Being part of NJHS at MCS reflects a deep commitment to academic excellence and meaningful contribution to both school and community life.
Environmental Stewardship Club (formerly Green Team)
The Environmental Stewardship Club empowers students to take an active role in caring for God’s creation. Through hands-on activities such as recycling, composting, and energy conservation, students learn the importance of sustainability and ecological responsibility. The club leads the school’s Earth Day celebrations and helps raise awareness about protecting the environment in light of Catholic social teaching.
Academic Pentathlon
MCS proudly participates in the United States Academic Pentathlon, a rigorous five-event competition that challenges middle school students in literature, mathematics, science, social studies, and fine arts. The program fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and academic excellence.
During the 2024–2025 school year, the MCS Middle School Pentathlon Team won the Rhode Island State Championship and advanced to the National Competition in San Antonio, Texas—where they placed in the top 10 across all subject areas. This outstanding achievement reflects the strength of our academic program and the dedication of our students.
Drama
MCS Drama provides students of all ages with exciting opportunities to explore the performing arts. With after-school programs in the fall and spring, full-day camps during school vacations, and summer workshops, students in Grades K–8 can participate in theatrical plays, musical productions, and drama workshops that inspire creativity and confidence.
LEGO Robotics
Students in Grades 3 through 8 engage in hands-on learning that blends technology, engineering, and teamwork. LEGO Robotics promotes problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration—while giving students a fun introduction to concepts that spark interest in future STEM careers.
Additional Enrichment Opportunities
Students at MCS also enjoy a variety of enrichment activities, including band, chorus, after-school art classes, chess club, and karate. These offerings allow students to discover their passions, build skills, and grow in confidence in a supportive, values-driven environment.
