Academic Excellence at MCS
Monsignor Clarke School provides a rich and supportive environment that nurtures the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of every child. Our small class sizes ensure that each student receives the individual attention needed to reach their full potential.
Our students are well-prepared for high school, with the majority of MCS graduates placing into honors-level courses. From early education through grade 8, our curriculum builds a strong academic foundation rooted in both faith and excellence.
The academic program at MCS is guided by the Rhode Island Content Standards and further enriched by the Newman Society Catholic Curriculum Standards. We establish clear benchmarks in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Our math program begins with foundational, standards-based instruction in Pre-K and progresses through algebra and geometry by eighth grade.
Students learn through a combination of individual and collaborative projects, and they are assessed using both formative and summative methods. Their educational journey is further enhanced by hands-on, curriculum-based field trips, service-oriented community activities, and engaging presentations from guest speakers.
Students in Pre-K through grade 5 attend weekly library classes in our media center, while middle school students benefit from well-stocked classroom libraries to support independent reading and literary growth. At MCS, we emphasize both learning to read and reading to learn—instilling a lifelong love of reading and a strong foundation for success in every subject.
